1972–1973 Dodge W200 Pickup Carpet & Panel Replacement – Buyer's Guide

June 30, 2025

The 1972–1973 Dodge W200 was part of Dodge’s D/W series—known to enthusiasts as early “Sweptline” and later “Adventurer”-era pickups. As a heavy-duty 3/4-ton 4WD truck, the W200 offered real utility with rugged capability, solid axles, and a tall stance ideal for off-road work or recreation. Today, vintage Dodge truck collectors and farm truck restorers alike seek these rigs for their retro character and mechanical durability.

But after 50+ years of hard use, it’s no surprise that the factory loop carpet, kick panels, and door panel inserts are cracked, faded, or missing altogether. This guide walks you through replacing your interior flooring and panel trim with premium kits from Factory Interiors—precision cut and made in the USA by Auto Custom Carpets (ACC).

Material Type: Classic Loop Carpet

For this generation, loop carpet was factory correct. Our kits use high-quality loop-style carpeting to replicate the original feel and texture, ideal for OEM restorations. For restomods or upgraded builds, you may consider switching to cutpile or Essex if available—though not shown here for the W200, you can always request material samples for custom yardage needs.

Molded Carpet vs. Die-Cut Panels

The complete molded carpet kit for the W200 is shaped using a heated form to match the contours of the regular cab floor pan, including raised transmission tunnels and footwells. This ensures a precise fit and easier installation compared to cut-and-sewn kits on older vehicles.

The door panel and kick panel kits are die-cut loop pieces, intended to be adhered to existing cardboard inserts (not included). These bring visual continuity to the lower cab area and are a staple of factory-style restorations.

Sound & Heat: Mass Backing & Padding

Our molded carpet kits for the 1972–73 W200 include jute padding attached underneath the carpet for added comfort and insulation. However, if you're restoring a show truck, daily driver, or off-roader, adding mass backing is highly recommended. It dampens road noise and blocks heat from the drivetrain and exhaust—especially critical in older trucks with minimal factory insulation.

Install Tips for Dodge Truck Enthusiasts

  • Test fit your molded carpet before trimming.
  • Use a reverse drill bit to make seat and trim holes cleanly.
  • Clean and inspect the cab floor for rust before installation.
  • Replace or restore OEM cardboard inserts before applying panel kits.
  • Adhere panel inserts with spray adhesive; clamps help during curing.
